Cindy’s best friend says she looks like a movie star after her stunning 13-week transformation at Ultimate Performance Dubai.

The changes to her body in a matter of weeks are impressive, but it’s the huge transformation in the way she feels that has changed Cindy’s life the most.

At 39, general manager Cindy has battled with depression all her adult life and had tried everything to help herself overcome the condition.

She constantly felt tired, low on energy and depressed, and it was a struggle making it to work let alone thinking about doing exercise.

But starting a transformation at U.P. Dubai and learning how to lift weights has elicited life-changing benefits for her mental and physical health.

As well as losing 12kg and a third of her body fat, It has helped Cindy overcome depression and feel strong, happy and confident.

Cindy explains how lifting weights, adding structure to her diet and pushing herself in the gym has totally transformed her mental health.

What were your motivations for starting a transformation journey with U.P.?

I have been looking to start personal training for quite some time. What I was looking for is to feel fitter, but most of all to feel better mentally.

How were you feeling both physically and mentally before starting?

I have been suffering from depression almost my whole adult life and have tried a lot of different ways to deal with that – when I looked at some of the video testimonials online, I realised I wanted to really give this a shot!

I did not have any experience in weight training – when I was doing exercise, it was mostly cardio. I was very nervous to start and was quite anxious about going to a gym.

Immediately after the intake, however, I felt confident that this was what I wanted. The atmosphere at U.P. is very friendly and non-judgmental.

Never would I have imagined that weight training could transform me as a person as a whole.

It has really been an amazing journey for me and I actually enjoy it a lot now!



What was your diet and lifestyle like before you started your transformation with U.P.?

Honestly, there wasn’t one. I had no diet or any consistent exercise regime. I was very inactive, feeling tired and down. When you deal with depression, the thought of going to a gym is the last thing on your mind – all my energy was going into work and surviving there.

Obviously, is it is a vicious circle. During my last therapy attempt in Dubai, my therapist pushed me towards exercise and I had in fact just signed up with U.P.

How did your diet and lifestyle change when you started your transformation with U.P.?

My whole life has changed since starting this journey. I am active, confident and generally a lot more upbeat and bright – the fog in my head has literally cleared up. Overall, the awareness of the food I am eating makes me appreciate it so much more! A peanut butter sandwich equates to a 3-star meal nowadays ☺.

What have been the biggest benefits of doing a transformation?

After the first week my therapist told me ‘there is a different person sitting in front of me’ – this was after one week!

One of my best friends told me ‘I thought only movie stars could look like that’!

What were your results like after your transformation?

In 13 weeks I went from 70kg down to 57.7kg, so I lost 12.3kg.

My body fat went from 31% to 21%. I lost 13.5cm off my waist and 11.5cm off my hips. But I am now continuing to further improve my results.



What were the most important things you learned during your journey and what really worked for you in helping you make your transformation?

Coming from no training and no real awareness of what I was eating, there was a lot to overcome for me. The way the training made me feel afterwards and the effect it had mentally and seeing the changes physically helped me pull through. Having the PT’s care and motivate me obviously makes a world of difference as well!

After a short break I have now started my second round!

I needed little external motivation as I noticed the benefits almost instantly. I feel completely different after a workout and that adrenaline kick in those first days I will not forget. That said, it is not easy at all.

How has doing this transformation changed you and do you think it will benefit you going forward?

It has been, and is, a life-changing experience. I have changed as a person in so many different ways; I am stronger, more confident, more fit and have a completely different relationship with food nowadays.

Instead of being a couch potato who is just eating, gaining weight and getting more tired and down, I am now more energetic, positive and resilient.

Would you recommend U.P. and why?

I would say if you are not 100% motivated and committed; don’t even go there. I struggled a lot and it is one of the hardest things I have ever done. My motivation to feel better made me pull through – and of course having the trainer by your side really helps tremendously.
